The Colony Mill Marketplace’s In Step Walking Program is designed to provide a safe, indoor location for mall walkers of all ages. This program is provided as a free service to the community. The doors at the smoke stack entrance (by West Street) will open on Monday - Saturday at 7:30am and Sundays at 9:00am. All walkers are asked to stay on the first and second floor levels to do their walking. Visit the Mall Office, located on the second level of the Center at Keene to register for the program. All mall walkers are required to wear an id badge which is provided by the Mall.

Here is how you get some great benefits of mall walking:
Protect your feet. If you`re walking regularly, replace your shoes every six months. Over time, arch support wears away and joint and heel pain may result. A rule of thumb: If your shoe has molded itself into the shape of your foot, it doesn`t have support left. You can cushion your walking shoes with insoles or thick socks.
Stand up straight. Maintaining good posture when you walk helps give your abs a workout. "Keep yourself straight up while holding in your ab muscles; every step becomes a mini sit-up". Most of us lean forward when we walk but we can catch ourselves easily at the mall: "Just check your posture in your reflection in the windows".
Vary your speeds. After warming up, choose a wing - say, the Food Court to EB Games to - and walk fast. Slow down for a lap to catch your breath, then pick up the pace again. An interval is one fast lap plus one slow one. "Try three intervals per walk every other day". You`ll build up both speed and muscle.
Make friends. In a mall you have a community of people from grandmothers to toddlers - who are all walking. If you meet people who are like-minded, everyone`s healthy habits may rub off.

Now Let’s Get Started. Sign up at the Mall Management Office (next door at the Center at Keene – on the Second Floor). At that time you will be provided with an id badge, a pedometer, tee-shirt and a complimentary bottle of water.
