The Colony Mill:
Serving the needs of America & the Monadnock Region for more than 150 years.

The Colony Mill is proud to be a part of the history of this country. Originally constructed in 1838 by two local families, the Faulkners and the Colonys, the mill produced fine woolen garments, including uniforms for the Union troops during the Civil War. Today it serves as a shopping, business center and a historic landmark for the people of the Monadnock region and the city of Keene.

A Brief History of the Colony Mill

The Faulkner and Colony Woolen Mill produced the finest garments for the Union troops during the Civil War, and the Allied forces during the World World Wars I and II. In addition, the Mill served scores of civilian companies and families until it closed its doors in 1953. At the time of its closing, the Faulkner and Colony Woolen Mill was the second oldest textile mill to operate continuously under the same management, in the same location, in the United States.

The Mill building stood in disrepair until 1983 when a local resident and developer, Emile J. Legere, restored and transformed the complex into a regional marketplace. In December, 2003 the Colony Mill was purchased by The Mayo Group who now operates the Mill as well as The Center at Keene shopping area.
